Volunteer Ombudsman Training
Lancaster County is fortunate to have nearly 200 long term care facilities, all of which receive unannounced visits from ombudsmen. One way we manage this task is by enlisting and training community members to help educate residents on their rights. Volunteer Ombudsmen complete extensive training by staff of the PA Dept of Aging (PDA) State LTC Ombudsman program.
Trainings are usually held during the day, but next month PDA begins a series of trainings from 6-7:30 p.m., held virtually by Zoom, so no travel is involved. In addition to virtual classroom sessions, volunteers complete online modules, and shadow our staff ombudsmen on facility visits. Screening is done for criminal background and conflicts of interest.
If you would like to know more about becoming a Volunteer Ombudsman, contact LTC Ombudsman Robin Work at (717) 299-7979 or rwork@co.lancaster.pa.us
